The Tilburg meeting was a rather tragic one, with first the German veteran Gerhard Thurow killed after hitting a tree as he was leading the 50cc race, and then six spectators injured when Jaap Groeneveld crashed into the crowd during the 500cc race.
A strong contingent of British teams and riders had crossed the North Sea for the occasion, and with some good entries coming from Germany, Finland and Sweden as well, the best Dutch riders had a strong opposition, especially in the bigger classes. Boet van Dulmen was the best of the locals, winning the 350cc race in front of Alex George, with the order reversed for the 750cc race. George added a 4th in the 500cc race, and together with Neil Tuxworth (winner of the shortened 500cc race and 2nd in the 250cc one) was one of the stars of the meeting. Next to the victories of Cees van Dongen (125 Bridgstone) and Theo van Geffen (50 Kreidler), another Dutch victory of sorts was the 250cc triumph of Alan North, riding for Henny ten Dam's Wilddam Racing.
